LANDSCAPE STUDIO III: URBAN OPEN SPACE
IN FINAL YEAR OF UNIVERSITY
AN OVERVIEW OF THIS PROJECT
QUEEN VICTORIA MARKET @ CARLTON, MELBOURNE
A HERITAGE BUILDING/ MARKET THAT WANTS TO PROGRESS TO A 24 HOUR CITY
FOCUS AREA - QVM CARPARK
Queen Victoria Market SITE ANALYSIS

Within the carpark, this proposed design was split into three main spaces.
The intimate space was located along Queen Street where the noise level was significantly higher, which made the selection of plants more important that allow privacy and shade during the busy time of the day.
The bridge has a grand staircase that allows sitting to look across the whole entire carpark with a big open space for impromptu events and public performances to be held in the area.

A rain garden located along New Franklin St where the topography of the site was sloped towards Queens Street, for better absorption of stormwater runoff.
A gathering space created at different levels allowing ramps going up the spaces with lighting to enhance the safety of the space during darker hours

A tree boulevard to separate intimate space and gathering spaces, directing the visitors to Queen Victoria Market.
Safety aspects to connect the area along New Franklin Street and Carpark together by a neon coloured pedestrian crossing.

Respite Area, away from the crowd at QVM, and create a quiet night walk
